International law

We have an extensive experience of private international law. Moreover, we have developed a strong background in matters of state immunity. Foreign states retained our services in the context of civil actions instituted against them in Canada.

Islamic Republic of Iran v. Hashemi, 2012 QCCA 1449: We represented the state of Iran in this claim for damages.  

New Jersey (Department of the Treasury of the State of) v. Trudel & Johnston, 2009 QCCA 86, [2009] R.J.Q. 46; We successfully invoked state immunity to dismiss the claim against our client, and maintained that result in appeal.

Shamji v. Tajdin, 2006 QCCA 314, J.E. 2006-625; We successfully appealed the dismissal of a declinatory motion contesting the jurisdiction of the Quebec courts.  

Parent v. Singapore Airlines Ltd. v. Civil Aeronautics Administration, J.E. 2003-2160 (S.C.): We pleaded the state immunity and obtained the dismissal of the claim in warranty made against Taiwan (Civil Aeronautics Adminsitration), our client. 

Widdrington Estate v. Underwriters at Lloyd's, docket no. 500-17-068238-115 of the Superior Court: We represent insurance companies in this action for declaratory judgment instituted by the Widdrington estate.
