Ioana Jurca is a versatile litigator with several years of experience in complex litigation and arbitration both domestically and internationally. Specifically, her area of expertise encompasses civil and commercial litigation, class actions, commercial arbitration, professional liability and insurance litigation. She appears before Quebec courts of first instance, the Court of Appeal of Quebec, and various professional organizations and administrative tribunals. Ioana is currently completing a Master’s degree in international commercial arbitration at McGill University.

Before joining Woods, Ioana has worked in a major public legal department and a leading international law firm. Ioana is fluent in English, French, Romanian and has advanced proficiency in Spanish.



Ioana has represented:

A technology company in a class action alleging a manufacturing defect in a laptop computer and false advertising

A retail company in a commercial arbitration in connection with a distribution agreement

An electricity supplier in an injunction related to an electricity transmission project

Several defendants in a large class action where Quebec patients are seeking reimbursement of accessory fees billed by physicians and clinics

She also acted:

In shareholder proceedings, notably in the context of the exercise of a shotgun clause

Before the Federal Court and the Federal Court of Appeal, including in the preparation of an appeal under the Canadian Anti-Spam Act 

In various litigious files in the construction field, both at the pre-judicial level and during court proceedings

In the context of a challenge to a safeguard order imposing full payment of commercial rent during the COVID-19 pandemic
